Carrier Oils

Perilla seed: This mint family plant is from East Asia (and is also known as Japanese mint or Chinese basil). The perilla seed oil is a fast-absorbing, low comeodonic, antioxidant oil rich in omega 3 fatty acids, tocopherols (mainly gamma), polyphenols (mainly rosmarinic acid) and triterpenoids (mainly ursolic acid). This oil minimizes pores, improves the skin’s moisture barrier, and its antiseptic properties can help cure/prevent acne.

Mongongo/Manketti: A fruit from a tree native to subtropical, southern Africa; it is high in polyunsaturated fat, is very emollient, and offers skin calming and protecting benefits. It promotes cellular repair by restructuring skin cells. Mongongo contains copper, iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium, polyunsaturated fats, linoleic acid (omega 6), as well as vitamin E- and it won’t clog pores.

Rosehip: It is full of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, beta carotene, vitamins A, C, and K, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Rosehip oil helps to firm skin, reduces skin-damaging enzymes from UV rays exposure, as well as hydrates and heals skin.

Pomegranate: Contains anti-inflammatory ellagic and puninin acid (omega 5) and other fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins (A, C), proanthocyanidins, flavonoids. It is non-greasy; absorbs deeply, heals, soothes and hydrates dry and inflamed skin. It also stimulates keratinocyte regeneration, improves skin elasticity and increases collagen production.

Raspberry seed: This oil has anti-inflammatory alpha linolenic acid, phytosterols, ellegic acid, and vitamin E- which soothe skin flare ups and prevent collagen destruction. It is also very hydrating and healing.

Sea Buckthorn: It is a soothing, hydrating, repairing, healing, and anti-inflammatory oil. It has vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D, E, K, cartenoids, phenols, and all four omega fatty acids (3, 6, 7, and 9). {It is rare for a botanical to have all four in one!}

Cucumber seed: High in vitamins B1, and C, as well as phytopherols, tocopherol and tocotrienol; components that help increase collagen production and improve skin elasticity. It is a non-greasy, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and deeply hydrating oil.

Cranberry: It is nourishing, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antiseptic. It is high in skin-barrier protecting vitamin E, omega 3, 6, 9 fatty acids (amazingly- in a perfect ratio), as well as benzoic acid which helps reduce inflammation and skin irritation.

Andiroba seed: This oil comes from the seeds of the Andiroba tree found growing the Amazon regions- namely Brazil. It is full of antioxidants, andirobin, vitamins A, C, E, linoleic, palmitic, oleic, stearic, and fatty acids. It helps promote cellular turnover and wound healing. Andiroba oil also improves skin firmness, elasticity and increases collagen production because the alpha-hydroxyl acids it contains. And it also has been known to repel insects due to its limonoid content.

Noni: Has analgesic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Noni improves collagen production, cellular turnover. It hydrates, soothes, and softens skin.

Mango butter: A healing butter that has fatty acids, vitamins (A, D), minerals, phytochemicals, beta carotene. It is anti-inflammatory and helps reduce acne, soothes insect bites, and dry/itchy skin.

Babassu: Is a nut butter/oil derived from a palm found in Northeastern Brazil. It is very absorbable, yet lacks a greasy feel and won’t clog pores. Babassu oil is antimicrobial and antifungal due to its lauric acid content. It is also full of vitamin E, which aids in cellular regeneration of the skin. Babassu has healing, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Mamey sapote seed/sapuyul oil: Native to Cuba and Central America. It is rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, proteins, amino acids, fatty acids and minerals. It is non greasy and helps balance sebum production. It is full of antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory and deeply hydrating.

Essential Oils

Cinnamon: An anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal, and antibacterial oil. It helps improve circulation while soothing and healing skin.

Black seed: This oil is derived from black cumin seeds which are native to Southwest Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. It has antibacterial properties that can help clear acne. It contains thymoquinone, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytochemical compound, and it is high in vitamin B, which helps the skin to retain moisture.

Yarrow: It is soothing to the skin, has anti-inflammatory properties, improves circulation, has flavonoids, salycic acid, and achilleine. It heals wounds, and has antibiotic and antimicrobial properties.

You can make a DIY oil blend at home using these oils for eczema, psoriasis, or even for use as an anti-aging, skin rejuvenating oil.

*The essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin due to their potency. Use them blended in combination with the carrier oils listed. One essential oil drop goes a long way.

All of these botanicals are truly gifts from nature; they will nourish and heal your skin- and your skin will thank you!
